Background#
It's been a busy time, busy with nothing.
Recently got a cloud server.
Thought of setting up a Minecraft server to play with friends, ended up exhausted for two days.
Issues Found#
No problems in version 1.12.2.
But in versions 1.18.2 and 1.20.1, it lags.
Server specs: 16 cores, 32GB RAM, 30Mbps bandwidth.
Resolution Process#
After referring to various sources, the following attempts were made:
- Seeking solutions from various platforms (mostly useless information)
- Trying different server cores (e.g., Catserver, Mohist, Paper...)
- Changing operating systems (Centos, Ubuntu, Windows)
- Optimizing server settings (like server.properties)
- Timings analysis
All efforts were in vain, then suddenly thought about the CPU frequency while trying on Windows.
I realized, oh boy, one core struggling while others are just watching.
Outcome#
Due to the server's CPU frequency being 2.7Ghz, a single core couldn't handle the higher versions of the MC server.
Ended up wasting two days for nothing (crying and laughing)
